DC LEAGUE of SUPER-PETS

Jeri Jacquin

Flying its way into theatres this weekend from writer/director Jared Stern, DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Pictures is DC LEAGUE of SUPER-PETS.

Krypto (voiced by Dwayne Johnson) is Superman’s dog and has been since being force to leave their home planet of Krypton as a baby. Feeling wonderful about having such a best friend, Krypto becomes a little confused when he sees Superman (John Krasinski) and Lois Lane (Olivia Wilde) and becomes a little jealous.

Lois notices and suggests that perhaps they find a canine friend for Krypto. At the local shelter, Ace (Kevin Hart) and his other caged friends including PB (Vanessa Bayer) the pig, Merton (Natasha Lyonne) the turtle, Chip (Diego Luna) the squirrely squirrel and the ever-plotting Lulu (Kate McKinnon) the hairless guinea pig.

All Ace wants to do is escape and all Krypto wants to do is hang with his bff Superman. Especially since Lex Luthor (Marc Marcon) is up to no good trying to get a piece of a meteor that he thinks will give him super powers. First of all he has to get the League out of his way including Batman (Keanu Reeves), Wonder Woman (Jameela Jamil), The Flash (John Early), Cyborg (Daveed Diggs), the Green Lantern (Dascha Polanco) and Aquaman (Jemaine Clement).

His plan fails and he ends up in jail but what he does not know is that Lulu gets a hold of a piece of the meteor and deduces that it only works on animals! Breaking away from the shelter, she did not count on what happens next – all of the animals gain super powers. But Lulu has other plans as she goes straight after Superman and Krypto falls for trick that makes his powers disappear.

Krypto needs help and discovers Ace and the others. He has no choice but to ask for their help in exchange for taking them to his farm in Smallville when it is all done. Now the battle for good and evil begins as animals and humans must come together to fight a deranged hairless guinea pig. Well, it just goes to prove evil comes in all shapes and sizes!

Johnson as Krypto gives us Superman’s best canine friend. There is not anything Krypto wouldn’t do for his Super-friend wanting to keep the promise to his parents. Always faithful but completely stubborn, trying to work with Ace after he gets superpowers proves to be his biggest challenge. He is learning to be a regular dog and what friendship truly means.

Hart as Ace gives his usual comic attitude of a dog with a broken heart of his own. Yet, he is always thinking of his fellow cage-mates, well, with the exception of Lulu. Once he realizes he has super powers, teaching Krypto to get a dog, Krypto also teaches Ace how to be a superhero and have faith in himself.

Bayer as PB is charming, sweet, cute, and filled with self-doubt and there is no way you can’t love her. Lyonne as Merton is hilarious and is enjoying his new status as a superhero in a very unusual and funny way. Luna as Chip has the same insecurities as PB and his superpowers make that feeling a tad more stressful but dang if he isn’t the cutest. Now, McKinnon as Lulu was the perfect choice to play the slightly, oh lets just be honest, totally deranged hairless guinea pig who has issues and is kind of love struck in a twisted sort of way. I just love her performance and it made me laugh – a lot.

Krasinski gets to be Superman, Wilde tries to keep up with evil as Lois, and Keanu Reeves is the voice of Batman. Can we please put him up for the role? He is difficult, dark, funny and charming voicing the man behind the mask.

Shout out to Thomas Middleditch and Ben Schwartz as guinea pigs Keith and Mark. They had me cracking up so much and just wanted to cuddle the stuffing out of them!

Other cast include Keith David as Zypto, Richard Arnold as Waffles, and Alfred Molina as Jor-El.

Warner Brothers is home to one of the most successful collections of brands in the world and stands at the forefront of every aspect of the entertainment industry from feature film, television and home entertainments with worldwide distribution to DVD and Bluray, animation, comic books, videogames and broadcasting. DC LEAGUE of SUPER-PETS is a fun family film that will be enjoyed by everyone. There are moments that surprised me with its adult language (sort of) and humor. But then again, if you want parents who love DC to sit with their kids who love animated films, you are going to have to throw a bone to them right?

There is fun, adventure and fighting the bad guys, well, er, um, the bad-mad guinea pig. The animation is everything one would expect from DC and the cast gives the audience plenty to love and laugh about. Lets face it, we would all think it cool to have a super-pet of our very own.

In the end – sit, stay and save the world!

The Band is Back Together with ZOMBIELAND: Double Tap on Bluray

zombieland bluray

Jeri Jacquin

Start the new year with good laughs from director Ruben Fleischer and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment and the continuation of rules to survival with ZOMBIELAND: Double Tap on Bluray and DVD.

So, a few years have gone by since we last checked in with the apocalypse survivors as Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson), Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg), Wichita (Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin) are taking a zombie break living in a big white house. Columbus and Wichita have settled into being a couple, Tallahassee is working on a new vehicle and Little Rock is getting itchy feet.

Thinking that Wichita might need something to look forward to, Columbus does his best to clear a path for their life. Spooked by his suggestion, both the girls pack up and hit the road. A month later, Columbus is heartbroken and Tallahassee is about to lose his mind with his whining so hitting up the local mall the two get more than they bargained for. Cute and fluffy Madison (Zoey Deutch) has survived in a mall and is happy to see others.

zombie 1

So happy that she latches onto Columbus which doesn’t work out really well when Witchita resurfaces with the news that Little Rock has taken up with a non-gun-toting-pacifist named Berkeley (Avan Jogia). On their way to Graceland perks Tallahassee up and all four jump into a vehicle to make their way to see the King – oh yea, and to get Little Rock Back.

Finding a hotel, the gang (minus one and plus one) meet Nevada (Rosario Dawson), Albuquerque (Luke Wilson) and Flagstaff (Thomas Middleditch). In a scuffle to end all scuffles, the gang (minus one with no plus one) heads off for a place called Babylon where Little Rock is supposed to be.

Well, to make a long story short (I know, too late!), Babylon is a perfect place for Berkeley with their non-gun-pacifist-giving-post-apocalyptic-peace-a-chance. All that would be wonderful except for one thing, a new breed of zombies affectionately called T-800’s are headed toward the drum circle and the only people that know how to stop them are going to do just that!

Eisenberg as Columbus is sticking to his rules (well, except for Madison) and knows that since they’ve been laying low for a bit their zombie skills might be a little rusty. Once Wichita comes back the tension is full of well-deserved shade. Eisenberg doesn’t miss a Columbus step. Stone as Wichita is still a strong lady who doesn’t know what she wants relationship wise and her protective sister instincts are strong. She is just fun all the way around.

zombie 3

Breslin as Little Rock has itchy feet because she’s tired of hanging out with people not her age. It isn’t easy and when she meets Berkeley, Little Rock sees a chance to do something different while paying homage to Cheech & Chong with a little road trip. Jogia as Berkeley reminds me of every cliché about guitar playing pacifists to the point that agreeing with Tallahassee is hilarious.

Speaking of Harrelson as Tallahassee, he has become the father figure to the group whether he likes it or not. When Little Rock runs off you can see his ‘dad’ side come out with wanting to do only one thing – end Berkeley. I love that Harrelson finally got a chance to ham it up with some Elvis impersonating.

Shout out to Deutch as Madison because her character is just everything, we never thought we wanted for Zombieland. She is hilarious, speaks her mind even if it doesn’t make sense, isn’t judgmental towards the situation the world finds itself in, is just the happiest survivor I think I’ve ever seen. Plus, she looks absolutely fabulous through the entire film!

Dawson as Nevada is a nice addition to the storyline, Wilson as Albuquerque has a truck bigger than Tallahassee’s and Middleditch as Flagstaff knows his Terminator movies and quotes. That’s all I’m saying about that because you should have all the giggles, I did with the new additions to the Zombieland universe.

First, what I love best about ZOMBIELAND: Double Tap is that the storyline doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel. Instead, it picks up a few years later without missing a sarcastic beat. The characters have become a little lazy behind the walls of their big ole house so adventures in zombie land are inevitable. What hasn’t changed is their idiosyncrasies, their need to not admit that they are feeling anything out of the ordinary like commitment, or the fact that they treat each other exactly as they did in 2009.

Think about that for a minute, it’s been 10 years since we were introduced to ZOMBIELAND and the only one that has aged is Abigail Breslin. Harrelson, Eisenberg and Stone look fantastic and I can’t express enough how glad I am that they all came back to make this sequel. Let’s be honest, sequels don’t always work out well and it is mainly because the expectations are really high. In ZOMBIELAND: Double Tap, the only thing I expected is that the humor be at the same level as before and I wasn’t disappointed in any way.

zombie 4

I had a fun time, enjoyed getting reacquainted with old friends and understanding that the rules that Columbus introduced us to in 2009 are what kept these characters alive. In their world all bets are off because the only thing they need to do is remember they are a family – oh and stay alive!

That’s right folks, no spoilers here because there is oh so much more to see AND what makes the arrival of the Bluray so very cool is making it a double ZOMBIELAND night and watch both films back to back. Oh yes, that is exactly what is happening in my household this weekend.

In the end – it’s their world and we just get to enjoy it.

GODZILLA: King of the Monsters

Godzilla cover

Jeri Jacquin

In theatres this week from writer/director Michael Dougherty and Warner Bros. Pictures is the return of the titans with GODZILLA: King of the Monsters.

It has been five years since the destruction that led to the death of Mark (Kyle Chandler) and Emma Russell’s (Vera Farmiga) son. Daughter Madison (Millie Bobby Brown) has watched her parents go their separate ways not dealing with the loss.

Emma is working with an organization called Monarch and their goal is to find the Titans to learn more about them. In their underground bunker, Emma and Madison watch Mothra come into being. Helping to keep it under control, Emma created a device called the Orca that only these Titans can understand.

godzilla 1

Almost immediately there is an attack on the facility and the two are kidnapped by former soldier Jonah Alan (Charles Dance). Arriving at his place of research, Mark is told by Dr. Serizawa (Ken Watanabe) and Dr. Graham (Sally Hawkins) about the kidnapping.

He joins them back at the center station where Dr. Ling (Ziyi Zhang) and Dr. Stanton (Bradley Whitford) explain what is happening around the world. The military wants to take over but the scientists believe there is another way.

In the meantime, Emma releases the titan called Ghidorah as more and more monsters like Baphomet, Typhoon, Abaddon, Bunuip and Methuselah wake up. Godzilla is also on his way to Zero and the team must decide if this is the beginning of working together.

The problem is there are people that can’t be trusted, titans who have a plan of their own and so many questions as to how to stop the destruction!

Chandler as Mark doesn’t want to get involved in what ever it is that Monarch is doing but once Emma and Madison are taken he has no choice. Especially when he realizes that it is technology he helped develop that is devastating. Chandler has the ability to look sorrowful when needed and jumps into action when he can.

godzilla 2

Farmiga as Russell takes on the titans when she should be home with her hubby Ed Warren (The Conjuring) keeping an eye on their evil artifacts. Brown as Madison is a kid who believes what she’s told and has to choose what is right and wrong – and then get back to the STRANGER THINGS cast.

Dance as Alan proves that you can take the Hand of the King out of Westeros but you can’t stop Tywinn from still wanting to rule the world. Whitford as Dr. Stanton is the sharp tongues comic relief especially when he sees his old White House stomping grounds in sad shape.

Watanabe as Dr. Serizawa is the strength of the group who is trying to keep Godzilla alive while trying to find a way to stop the other Titans. I adore Watanabe and this is a perfect character for him as it is strong but equally quiet. Zhang as Dr. Ling is caught up in every minute of the chaos and it’s nice to see Sayuri and the Chairman (Memoirs of a Geisha) together again.

Other cast include Thomas Middleditch as Sam Coleman, Aisha Hinds as Colonel Diane Foster, O’Shea Jackson Jr. as Chief Warrant Barnes, Anthony Ramos as Sgt. Martinez, Elizabeth Ludlow as Lt. Griffin, Jonathan Howard as Asher Jonah and David Strathairn as Admiral William Stenz.

godzilla 3

Look, I know I am making a little fun of GODZILLA: King of the Monsters but there are moments crying out for me to poke fun. The story is straight forward, the technology is cutting edge, the graphics are on point and Godzilla never looked so good.

That being said, honestly I could have seen myself sitting at home watching this on a bit 75″ screen television with a sound bar and having a great time with friends. I am a kid of the black/white Godzilla/Mothra/Rodan era and I spent many a Friday night or Saturday afternoon watching the battles.

The first film directed by Ishiro Honda in 1954 introduced everyone to Gojira aka Godzilla and the reaction was huge. Everyone knows who Godzilla is even if the youngsters of today don’t know the back story. If they see a statue of Godzilla – they know!

godzilla 4

The radioactive lizard looking and extremely HUGE creature slips through the ocean with ease while destroying everything below his very large feet. I sort of have the same problem so I can relate!

From the 1950s until today, Godzilla is part of film history and an icon that we love. Although the films haven’t always been successful (sorry Matthew Broderick aka 1998 version), this story works even if it is cheesy, campy and predictable.

Prepare because Godzilla vs. King Kong is going to come large and in charge in 2020.

In the end – long live the king!

HBO’s SILICON VALLEY Brings Its Fifth Season to DVD

Silicon Valley

Jeri Jacquin

Coming to DVD and Digital from HBO Home Entertainment is one of the networks most successful series with SILICON VALLEY: The Complete Fifth Season.

Things at Pied Piper are finding its speed but Dinesh (Kumail Nanjiani) and Gilfoyle (Martin Starr) are in the middle of hiring staff. Matt Belson (Matt Ross) isn’t happy about what they are doing and attempts to bring over new coders but none of them want to work on his new mainframe box. Monica (Amanda Crew) and Laurie (Suzanne Cryer) are still keeping their eyes on the bottom line. Jared (Zach Woods) wants to jump into a company that is falling by the way side and hire their employees. Optimoji’s CEO Kira agrees but wants to bring her staff along.

silicon valley 2

Duncan isn’t going to make this easy but Richard (Thomas Middleditch) has his own idea with Sliceline and it works out with new employees and no old dead weight. Having new employees means Richard is going to have to work on his people skills. That’s causing a rift of respect and a walk out with Dinesh and Gilfoyle still standing. All of this in the midst of a little business espionage as a mole has reared its ugly head. Jian-Yang (Jimmy O. Yang) is doing just about anything he can to get a judge to agree that Erlich is dead. Agreeing to take over his problems, Jian-Yang slides right in leaving the gangs belongings outside.

Richard is invited to a party along with Jared and meets Ben Burkhart who works for Quiver and says he’s looking forward to seeing what Richard’s new project will bring. He also butters up Richard with offering to be the new COO for Pied Piper. Jared isn’t so sure this is a good idea given Ben’s history with other company’s. Belson is still trying to find ways to make a dent in Pied Pipers business by hitting them in the wallet. Ben immediately tries to pit Richard, Dinesh, Jared and Gilfoyle against each other at the same time they agree there is a leak in the company.

Richard goes around to eight other companies and sways them into being part of PiperNet. In the meantime finding the mole is left up to Jared and Gilfoyle who have to decide what to do about what they discover. In other good news Jared puts a dent in Jian-Yang’s take over of Erlich’s belongings and property but not before the little sneak takes what he wants and high tails it to China with a duplicate of Pied Pipers and Richards project.

silicon valley 4

Laurie decides to make a decision and bring in a new company to PiperNet which Richard decides is not cool with him. He can’t exactly say anything since the investment money is being spent. The new company Eklow and its CEO Ariel are about to pull more on PiperNet when more sabotage happens. Richard isn’t about to let any more craziness happen to PiperNet and gets a little creative himself. Belson moves forward with the Box 3 launch even though he momentarily thought he should leave the tech game.

Laurie has taken over as CEO of Eklow Labs when Ariel dashes with the company’s big product. Richard is getting nervous that Jian-Yang might launch his stolen ideas before PiperNet has they have a chance to get the jump. He has every right to be nervous when Belson runs into Jian-Yang and they come together to exchange information!

None of this is over when Monica discovers Laurie has been doing what they agreed not to do run ads or sell user data. Richard is not going stand for it and just when you think the parting is amicable – Laurie meets up with Yao in China.

The day has finally come and PiperNet is up and running, but what they don’t see coming is who is going to usurp 51% of the company. Laurie and Yao have made it clear that they are going to do whatever they can to keep the team sweating closure. Richard has one more ace up his sleeve – Belson! Working his charm on Belson’s ego, Laurie finds herself on the outs and Gilfoyle makes a move that surprises them all.

SILICON VALLEY’s fifth season garnered seven Emmy nominations including Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series. Brought to HBO by Mike Judge and Alec Berg, this season brings an intensity for PiperNet and the gang with enemies coming from all sides.

The season’s half hour episodes pack in an ever changing tech landscape and it is the cast that makes it look effortless. Continuing to jump through the Silicon Valley hoops each season, it is stunning that the storyline keeps moving forward. That is they may keep moving forward but it’s not without putting out little fires that are trying to move them back.

SILICON VALLEY has taught me a lot about the tech world along with a vocabulary that I didn’t know existed. Of course the series also brought a lot of laughs as well. I constantly tell people if they want to learn about the craziness of it all they should invest in a serious marathoning of previous seasons!

In the end – the future is now!

Nothing Changes like Change in SILICON VALLEY: The Complete Fourth Season on Bluray

Silicon season 4Jeri Jacquin

On Bluray from HBO Home Entertainment is the continuing look at the world through the eyes of those at the beginning of the technology age with SILICON VALLEY: The Complete Fourth Season.

Dinesh (Kumail Nanjiani) has helped to change Pied Piper to the video chat app called PiperChat. That isn’t the problem really as the team is trying to fund it on their own. Dinesh and Gilfoyle (Martin Starr) know there is only one more play and it’s with Russ Hanneman (Chris Diamantopoulos). Richard (Thomas Middleditch) isn’t happy about what it going on around him and feels that he needs to take his ideas elsewhere. That leaves the CEO job open and Dinesh is offered up.

Richard’s first lock out is when he asks Dinesh for data and is told he is locked out. Not about to be stopped, he finds a way in and discovers that the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act has been violated by PiperChat.

sili 1

Gavin (Matt Ross) and Jack are back from China but there is something happening that causes Gavin to use a video chat to find answers. Discovering what Jack is up to, Gavin reaches out to Dinesh to shut down the app altogether. Avoiding legal problems that Richard knows about is the only way to make it all go away.

Of course it isn’t that easy yet Jack manages to avoid dealing with the legal implications of COOPA. Richard is working like crazy on his internet project and its about to take a turn when Monica lets him know that she knew someone who was working on something similar once. Turns out it is Peter Gregory and Richard gets his hands on the archives of his work. The problem he discovers is that Hooli once again has their hands in everything.

Gavin is on board with helping Richard, especially when its discovered that it could knock Hooli out. Richard works out a business plan but wants to keep the launch less than obvious. Erlich (T.J. Miller) believes that Laurie (Suzanne Cryer) is going to be forced out of Raviga by Ed Chen but it isn’t much of a surprise for anyone.

Dinesh doesn’t know what to do about his relationship with Mia (Phoebe Neidhardt) but that might not be an issue when he discovers a hack that is disturbing. Deciding to talk to Richard about what has been happening, he isn’t the only one not happy with what has been happening as Gavin turns everything over to Richard.

sili 3

Leaving a mess, Richard is confronted by Russ about the whole thing and it turns, shall we say messy? Reaching out to Dan Melcher to work a deal, he has to babysit Erlich which turns into Erlich trying to get a job with Feldspar.

Pied Piper in online and breaks the top 500 app! Richard knows he needs to find an attorney and begin litigation for the royalties. Of course he is a step behind when Burke has a longer arm and pins Richard against a wall after a failed Hail-Mary threat.

Who knew weather would put the Pied Piper team once again close to ruin from the storage center. Richard reaches out to Erlich to get a meeting with Feldspar thinking they could get something going with their VR tech. Dinesh and Gilfoyle manage to use Pied Piper’s algorithm that gives the VR a boost. With an offer of a $25 million buy out, Richard learns from Monica (Amanda Crew) that it’s a farce by Feldspar and that she is willing to fund them.

Going into Hooli-Conference, the Pied Piper team sneak in with their routers. Placing them all around the convention, they wait for Feldspar to bring in their VR presentation only to watch it fall apart and Hooli phones go haywire by exploding. Now Jack has to deal with millions of devices affected.

sili 2

Richard uses Anton to store data and Barker takes off to China as they have no choice but to increase production. Gavin has run off to Tibet but learns Barker has been taken hostage. Knowing he has to rescue him, it means coming back reinstated at Hooli’s CEO.

Pied Piper is back on investors radar and it is Gavin who offers Richard a deal. That’s when he discovers Richard has made a deal with Bream/Hall. Angry, he threatens Richard who lets Gavin know that he isn’t worried at all. In fact Richard makes a threat, or prediction of his own saying he plans to make Hooli obsolete.

SILICON VALLEY has become one of the most popular series on HBO with it’s storyline that is tech based mixed with comedy. These characters are worth every minute to keep up with because the twists and turns are insane and cool.

The series was created by Mike Judge, John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky with the story of five guys who are trying to get their start up company started in the Silicon Valley. HBO premiered the show in 2014 and has already been reviewed for a fifth season!

The DVD includes the episodes Success Failure, Terms of Service, Intellectual Property, Teambuilding Exercise, The Blood Boy, Customer Service, The Patent Troll, The Keenan Vortex, Hooli-Con and Server Error.

There are laughs enough for all yet there is also intricate story lines in the high-tech world that had me learning far more than I ever imagined. I’m pretty much a tech failure being I just want things to work when I turn them on and don’t care how that happens. The cast play off each other with ease and that’s the biggest thing that makes this show work.

Each character has its own idea of how the world works and the clashes are sometimes beyond belief, yet I tune in for each episode knowing there is so much more to come. I certainly don’t claim to understanding everything they talk about but I’m dang sure willing to learn.

SILICON VALLEY brings us all on the ride of satire embedded in a bit of reality with a quirkiness that makes it one surprise after another. If you are looking for a unique view of the world through the eyes of techies then get in on the fun. SILICON VALLEY: The Complete Fourth Season is now available on Bluray and Digital HD.

In the end – they are changing the way things change!

CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS The First Epic Movie Saves the Day on Bluray

Captain Bluray

Jeri Jacquin

Coming to Bluray from director David Soren, DreamWorks and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment is a tale of two friends and their new pal CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS.

Best buddies George (Kevin Hart) and Harold (Thomas Middleditch) are in the fourth grade at Jerome Horwitz Elementary School and are total cut ups. They are known for their pranks and they are mainly aimed at what the two consider mean teachers. Of course principal Benjamin Krupp (Ed Helms) doesn’t find the two quite as funny.

The two also have managed to create a superhero called Captain Underpants who basically wears only a cap and – well – his underpants while fighting crime. Using their treehouse as their home office for Treehouse Comix Inc., the boys sell their stories to their friends.

cap 1

When a prank goes wrong and they are ratted out, George and Harold end up in Principal Krupp’s office. Thinking that separating the boys into different classrooms will stop their antics, the boys discover that using a Hypno Ring from a cereal box has transformed Krupp into their Captain Underpants.

Figuring out that water and snapping fingers brings him back and forth, the boys also realize that they need to put their superhero into Krupps’ principal role before anyone finds out. When a scientist named Professor P. (Nick Kroll) arrives and Krupp aka Captain Underpants hires him to teach, George and Harold see something weird going on.

The boys begin to make changes around the school with the help of the “principal” but it is Professor Pee-Pee Diarrheastein Poopypants, Esq. that’s up to no good. Wanting to take over the town, it is up to George, Harold and Captain Underpants to puts things right again. When that’s done the boys must decide if their new superhero must stay or go.

In the meantime it’s Tra-la-LAAAAAA!

cap 3

Hart and Middleditch are such an amazing pair playing George and Harold. They vocally play off of each other and it is absolutely seamless. I love the way they speak to one another and as an adult I giggle like a kid. That’s what makes this film so cool – you certainly don’t have to be a kid to enjoy the fun.

Helms as Captain Underpants is hilarious and every time he says ‘tra-la-laaaaa’ I join in. That gets stuck in your head but in a great way as if you think ‘where can I use this phrase’ and trust me, I’ve thought of a lot of situations where that fantastic tune can be used.

Kroll as Professor P. has serious issues yet even being vertically challenged and a head of hair curlier than Shirley Temple, he gives funny line delivery.

This week from HBO Home Entertainment is another awesome addition to anyone’s home library with SILICON VALLEY: The Complete Third Season.

Demoted to Chief Technology Officer of Raviga-run, Richard (Thomas Middleditch) is now being courted by Flutterbeam but he doesn’t bite. At a meeting, Jack says they need fast money but Richard learns it is at the cost of their product with a tacky commercial adding insult to injury.

Belson at Hooli fires the entire staff to take back stock options for Big Head. Gavin (Matt Ross) wants to manipulate the algorithm for the bad searches about Nucleus. Jared (Zach Woods) is having difficult reclaiming his condo when the tenants don’t pay rent and aren’t leaving and Jian-Yang (Jimmy O. Yang) is looking to move.

Richard can’t seem to let go and wants Pied Piper as a platform but Jack isn’t about to let that happen. Laurie (Suzanne Cryer) is the only other person who agrees with Richard but isn’t sure how that will play out.

Gilfoyle (Martin Starr) knows he has two Hooli coders and uses them to crack Richard’s algorithm. Jack thinks everything is going as planned when actually Gilfoyle and company are doing a side by side with Pied Piper as a platform and box appliance.

Secrets have a way of coming out and the platform idea is no exception, Jack threatens the staff but Richard tells him flat out that he is aware the company can’t meet the Maleant deadline. This is all pretty much a moot thing when Gavin calls Richard to let him know he acquired Endframe which means the Pied Piper platform is now in play.

Jack (Stephen Tobolowsky) is out and the CEO position is once again back open and working on the new platform is back up and running.

Erlich (T.J. Miller) goes to the Big Head mansion and makes a deal to live their with the BH gang. Also wanting to save cash, Pied Piper leaves the office and its trappings behind for Erlich’s digs. Laurie is also told she never should have gotten rid of Richard as CEO.

An article about Richard and Pied Piper is pretty inflammatory but Erlich knows how to help. In order to get writer Cantwell to back off, Erlich lets it out that Belson wanted a cover up of negative publicity from the internet taken care of by his staff. He also announces a new partnership deal calling it Bachmanity.

Belson is on the warpath and Erlich is told that if he finds out how the story leaked, it could ruin him. What does he do? Well, Erlich buys Code/Rag which has Cantwell’s blog and the info can’t be revealed. Richard decides to date a Facebook coder named Winnie but it doesn’t last because of a peccadillo.

After a Hawaiian party costing several pretty pennies, Erlich learns that Bachmanity can’t pay its debts. Learning there is $6 million floating about; he can’t get the district attorney to do something immediately. When that doesn’t work, it’s Laurie to the rescue.

Richard waits for the launch of Pied Piper and it hits 100,000 downloads in a matter of days but his glee is short-lived when he learns Erlich owns no shares! Even as Pied Piper gets ready to hit Hooli’s app store, Laurie has to explain to Richard what has happened with Erlich’s shares.

When five hundred thousands downloads happen, Laurie throws a party. It’s Richard that isn’t celebrating knowing that he needs to have a way to teach others how to use the platform for it to be truly successful. Belson learns about the low DAU’s from a Pied Piper employee looking to move up the ladder.

Trying to turn everything in their favor at Hooli, Richard discovers that Jared and Dinesh (Kumail Nanjiani) has been padding the numbers to make them spike with a click of a Bangladeshi mouse! Needing money to continue, Erlich finds some in Coleman Blair Partners but Richard can’t continue with what he knows about the numbers.

When it all comes crashing down it bringing a result that no one could have seen coming – except for the new owners of Pied Piper!

SILICON VALLEY has received 11 Emmy Nominations and SILICON VALLEY begins its fourth season soon on HBO!

Let me tell you what I love about this show – it leaves me totally confused but in an awesome way. When I first began watching I wasn’t sure where the show was going. Of course this means I knew absolutely nothing about Silicon Valley, programs, apps, tools – none of it. All I knew about computers is pretty much how to turn on one.

I then found myself taken in by what was going on, how these characters thought and the actors who made it all happen and I was taken in. Season after season I wonder where it’s going to go and how I’m going to be confused by the technology I should understand after all these years.

And although the technological side is interesting enough, it is the characters that I watch continually ride the roller coaster of ‘what could possibly go wrong now?’ It is the way they make everything about the show happen that keeps me coming back. Each character brings something to the table and if you remove one – it doesn’t work. Congratulations HBO for knowing that about this extremely talented ensemble.

Coming to Bluray this week from HBO Home Entertainment is the comedy straight out of the age of start ups with SILICONE VALLEY: The Complete Second Season.

Pied Piper is a team led by Richard (Thomas Middleditch) along with Erlich (T.J. Miller), BigHead (Josh Brenner), Jared (Zach Woods), Dinesh (Kumail Nanjiani) and Gilfoyle (Martin Starr) who have just rushed into the technology world with TechCrunch Disrupt.

But Hendricks is pushed when criticisms about his ability to take things in a productive direction comes under fire by venture capitalists. When an offer comes in and seems too good to be true the team realizes the true pressure they are under. Especially when Richard finds out Hooli is suing them for copyright infringement – and at a funeral of all places.

Laurie Bream (Suzanne Cryer) takes over Raviga Capital who has an officer on the table, but when word spreads about the lawsuit Bream takes back the offer. Of course the word ‘lawsuit’ means crazy rolls downhill and it’s taking everyone with it. In steps Russ Hanneman (Chris Diamantopoulos), a man with lots of money and no fear! He tells Richard he’ll go all in and doesn’t care about the lawsuit.

But even Hanneman has something else in mind and Richard sends him packing. It’s not over until it’s over as the gauntlet is thrown down and Hanneman’s ‘End Frame’ takes on Richard’s ‘Pied Piper’.

When Big Head discovers a Nucleus phone, he takes it to Richard to stop the lawsuit. As the case becomes more entwined with who-did-what-when, it is a small clause in a contract between Hooli and Richard that is a game changer.

So much so that Raviga has interest again and just when the Piped Piper crew thought things were going right for a change – Richard gets the final slap!

HBO Home Entertainment brings fans critically-acclaimed and ground breaking programming on Bluray, DVD and Digital HD all over the world. The company’s catalog contains hundreds of titles that include TRUE DETECTIVE, GIRLS, THE SOPRANOS, TRUE BLOOD and GAME OF THRONES.

TUBS OF POPCORN: I give SILICON VALLEY: The Complete Second Season three and a half tubs of popcorn out of five. I wasn’t sure about the series when it first stated in 2014 and am now intrigued as to where it is headed. The ensemble cast brings a combination of seriously clever humor and solid storyline.

The Bluray includes 300 minutes with episodes: Sand Hill Shuffle, Runaway Devaluation, Bad Money, The Lady, Server Space, Homicide, Adult Content, White Hat/Black Hat, Binding Arbitration, and Two Days of the Condor along with the special features of Deleted Scenes, Reality Bytes: The Art & Science Behind Silicon Valley, and 6 Audio Commentaries from Cast & Crew.

silicone 3

Although the series is a comedy, it certainly has its jaw dropping moments as the most ‘qualified to succeed are the least capable of handling success’. I love that line because it really does explain so much about these unique characters and what they endure in the name of success.

In the end – see genius in a whole new light!
