FEAR THE WALKING DEAD: The Complete Second Season Brings Another Look at the Zombie Beginnings!

Jeri Jacquin

Coming to Bluray and Digital HD December 13th from Anchor Bay Entertainment is the mega-walker hit FEAR THE WALKING DEAD: The Complete Second Season.

The group finds themselves on the boat Abigail headed down to San Diego. Madison (Kim Dickens) and Travis (Cliff Curtis) are trying to keep everyone together including Chris (Lorenzo Henrie), Daniel (Ruben Blades), Ofelia (Mercedes Mason), Nick (Frank Dillane) and Alicia (Alycia Carey). But everyone seems to be working against each other as Strand (Colman Domingo) takes on the role of leader. When Chris and Nick take a jump off the boat it is the worst time as another boat approaches.

Trying to get away they make it to an island Travis meets a family that tells him San Diego is no better off than anyplace else as the military has burned it to the ground. When suspicions about Strand reach their peak, it is discovered that he has plans to head to Mexico, Baja to be exact. Strand tells them all that where he is going has supplies and safety.

Needing supplies now, a group goes to shore to salvage from a plane on the beach. They discover two survivors and when walkers come for them they get back to the boat. Strand isn’t happy with the two new passengers and demands they be put on a raft away from the boat.

In Mexico it is Nick who goes ashore looking for Strand’s people but the group can no longer escape the pirates that want their boat. Now on the ground they must get to Strand’s compound and after a night of shooting leader Celia wants them all to leave. Chris runs with Travis following and after a confrontation with his mother, Nick takes off as well.

When Travis tells Nick that he and Chris aren’t coming back, the young man tries to return but ends up in the middle of a pack of wolves and walkers. Wounded, Nick wanders until he is found by Luciana (Danay Garcia) who ignores him but that doesn’t last when he walks his way into their compound.

Taken to the community leader Alejandro (Paul Calderson), Nick hears the stories of the community that are believed by all including Luciana. He also learns about a ‘store’ where supply and demand are all about what you bring for trading.

Madison, Strand, Alicia and Ofelia try to get back to the boat onto to discover it is gone. Up on a ridge is a hotel where the group discover showers, beds, drink and walkers. Deciding they need to rest, everyone gets cleaned up while Strand and Madison tie one on at the hotel bar.

Travis and Chris are on the road and find a farmhouse where they hope to find food. When a group pull up in a pickup, Travis immediately doesn’t trust them. When the farmer comes out to protect his land, Chris takes matters in his own hands to the horror of is on-looking father.

With walkers everywhere, Alicia comes up with a plan and Madison becomes the bait to lead them away. Ofelia goes off on her own heading back to the United States border. Madison and Elena need to begin trading and heads to Alejandro warehouse. While she is there Madison realizes that talk she is hearing is about Nick!

Heading back to the hotel, it is decided to close the hotel and lock the gates. Madison decides to break a rule and the consequences bring other survivors to the hotel and in the middle of the pack is Travis.

Marco (Alejandro Edda), leader of the warehouse, decides that he wants the community for his own and no matter how much Nick tries to talk him down, he refuses to listen. Going back to Alejandro, he tries to talk the community into leaving and sets a trap for Marco and his gang.

Now Nick and Luciana begin walking towards the border with the survivors not knowing that Ofelia has reached there as well. Strand is upset with Madison for letting Travis into their group and is told he has to leave. After Alicia’s act to save Travis, all three get into a car and leave the hotel and decide to look for Nick.

Discovering the community he was in is gone; they find Alejandro who tells them Nick is headed for the border. At the border Nick and Luciana cross and see a helicopter but aren’t aware that a group has surrounded them capturing Nick and Luciana!

Dickens as Madison has her motherly enabling cut to the quick this season. When each of the kids makes their own decisions, it isn’t about saving them as about accepting that there is nothing she can do to stop them. Alicia stays behind and now Madison focuses all her energy on keeping her alive.

Curtis as Travis is another enabler who hasn’t quite cut the cord from his son Chris but boy does that kid make it eventually easy. Hoping their time together will bond them to survive together and return to Madison, in one moment it all falls apart and he is now in the same boat as his wife.

Dillane as Frank does a little growing up this season walking away from his family. Discovering the community it is his chance to actually help without anyone knowing of his family failures. Sister Alicia played by Carey is also finding her own place in the world making decisions that are actually quite helpful. The highlight is her plan to lead the dead to become ocean bobble heads!

Henrie as Chris has an attitude stuck up his teenage attitude and walking away puts everyone in danger. Believing he knows more about what’s right in this new world than father Travis, he has no problem proving it to the devastation of his father.

Mason as Ofelia is a tough customer who isn’t going to give in just because strangers show up at the hotel. Garcia as Luciana is also another tough woman who just wants to do what’s right for the community and follows Alejandro almost blindly. Calderson as Alejandro wants what’s best for his community and the dark secret he hides is a little selfish to my way of thinking. Bad dude Marco played by Edda doesn’t see what’s coming because, as we all know, greed blinds.

Domingo as Strand shows a more humane side once they reach the hotel. He begins to see Madison more as a friend rather than a hindrance and one night of drinking loosens his story. When Madison decides to leave there is a sense of betrayal but with Strand you never quite know what he is feeling – very poker face!

AMC has brought itself to the forefront of cable television in the past few years. With such series as Mad Men, Hell on Wheels, and Breaking Bad, AMC has also blown television away with the series The Walking Dead and now, Fear the Walking Dead.

Anchor Bay brings amazing entertainment to those extending their media library and is also celebrating their 20th Anniversary. From theatrical to home release, Anchor Bay brings STARZ Original series, AMC Network series, The Weinstein Company, Radius, children’s entertainment, fitness, and sports to fans. FEAR THE WALKING DEAD: The Complete Second Season takes the storyline into a chaotic space where the group that wanted to stick together has become split apart. It is interesting to watch the dynamics of the characters finally become worn out and the kids wanting to run as far away from adults as they can.

The parental side of me yelled ‘let ‘em run and see how far they get’ and then sat back the rest of the season to discover how they would fair in the new world. It became all to quickly noticeable that maybe I should have been worried about the adults!

It seems the group has found itself among some of the most nasty undesirables. The hotel has its usual dead-beat non-paying flesh rotten guests, the warehouse has abusive robbers, the road has kill-happy border seekers and a community has a leader who isn’t exactly truthful.

Finding their way back to each other is going to bring about a whole new set of problems heading back to the U.S. border where everything they have experienced might be a piece of cake in comparison!

What do you expect when the world has turned on itself right?

The Bluray includes all 648 minutes of storytelling of characters facing the unknown and walkers! All 15 episodes are included as well as the Bonus Features of Audio Commentaries, Deleted Scenes, Flight 462 Webisodes, Q&A with Cast and Creative Team from PaleyFest LA 2016, Inside ‘Fear the Walking Dead’ and The Making of ‘Fear the Walking Dead’.

In the end – the post apocalyptic world is tearing them apart!

Comic Con 1

Jeri Jacquin

Oh goodness it seems that a warm up is all around this year’s SDCC but that isn’t stopping anyone from partaking in everything! Today all the outdoor events went up and are running which means the fun has truly begun and with all the events moving into high gear, Friday-Day Two is going to be even richer.

Let’s get straight into what panels are catching my eye!

First thing in the morning is Cartoon Network’s Steven Universe which will have a Q&A with Zach Callison who is the voice of Steven. If you haven’t had the opportunity to see this show you certainly should.

For my granddaughter I’m going to have to stop in to see the My Little Pony sneak peek at the rest of Season Six and the new MY LITTLE PONY EQUESTRIA GIRLS: Legend of Everfree film that is being released this fall.

my little pony equestria

After a morning of animation I definitely must stop in to see Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion discuss Season Two of Con Man. Of course I am a Fillion fan and can’t wait to hear what he has to say because you can bet money it will be off the cuff and hilarious.

I am truly excited to see the Nobility screening with a truly amazing cast consisting of Doug Jones, Walter Koenig, Christopher Judge and Darren Jacobs for starters. In Ballroom 20 I can pretty much guarantee that getting a seat is going to be rough because of the FOX series Bones saying its final goodbye to fans and Comic Con ending their amazing twelve year run.

The Mighty Morphine Power Rangers: It’s Morphin Time! is a new comic series based on the ‘90s live action children’s series that are going to bring lots of people in costume to see what is new and morphing.

If you can believe it, it has been 20 years since the first RESIDENT EVIL and now a celebration with the panel will treat fans talking about the series that has become iconic.

Wondering what’s happening in Hall H? Well, AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead makes it’s appearance with cast Cliff Curtis, Kim Dickens, Frank Dillane, Alycia Carey, Lorenzo Henrie, Mercedes Mason and Colman Domingo along with Robert Kirkman and Gale Ann Hurd to discuss where the series left off in May.

If you have time and zombies are not what you are looking for there is always Space Command: Bold Adventures in the Far Reaches of Space with Doug Jones, Bill Mumy, Bob Picardo, Bruce Boxleitner and Christina Moses.

Looking for adult animation? How about [adult swim]’s Robot Chicken and a behind-the scenes look at footage from the series. Later in the day the animated series Samurai Jack gives fans a look behind the silk screen to the adventure that captivated me years and years ago.

Of course the CW is bringing The 100 giving fans a peek at what comes next after the last season’s finale. With the defeat of ALIE and The City of Light in ruins there is not a moment to waste as the radiation level continues to rise.

the 100

AMC puts their zombies back to back as The Walking Dead makes its way to Hall H to a frenzy of fans who want to the answer to the biggest question at the end of the last season – who did Negan take out? Now you know no one on the panel is going to give it away but it is certainly fun trying. Let me tell you this much, with each cast member being introduced to the panel, the screams can make you go deaf for a bit so prepare!

No one is going to leave Hall H because the next panel is equally as intense as HBO brings Game of Thrones to the stage. The end of the last season has left fans totally shocked because the players may have changed but the game is still the same.

STARZ also brings their new series American Gods to fans that have become excited about what this cable network has been bringing. STARZ brings the cast together to preview this new highly anticipated series.

A&E returns to SDCC with Bates Motel bringing Vera Famiga, Freddie Highmore, Max Thieriot and Nestor Carbonell to answer questions and reveal exclusive content for the new season.

game of thrones

Since starting off the day with animation it only seems fair that I finish my day the same way! Bob’s Burgers returns with the vocally comical cast and a panel that is going to be loaded with double entendres and footage that will make your friends jealous.

Southpark returns for it’s 20th season (yes, I said 20th – do you feel the grey?),Chris Hardwick will be hosting the panel discussing the 267 episodes and do what Comic Con does best, give fans a sneak peek to the new season.

It must be said that SDCC would not be SDCC without the FX series Archer. H. Jon Benjamin who voices Sterling Archer, Aisha Tyler as Lana Kane, Jessica Walter as Malory Archer and more will tempt fans with laughter and what is to come in the new season.

Also on the list of ‘must-see’ is WGN America series Salem, the CW series iZombie, the highly anticipated new FOX series The Exorcist, the return of Scream Queens.

Another panel that is going to be absolutely crowded is HISTORY’s Vikings and yes, before you even ask, Travis Fimmel who plays Ragnar will be there along with Katheryn Winnick, Clive Standen, Gustaf Skarsgard, Alyssa Sutherland and Alexander Ludwig. HISTORY brings a look at the new season coming soon.

Finally, da-da-daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa… the SyFy film SHARKNADO: The 4th Awakens will be biting fans as Ian Ziering, Tara Reid, Tommy Davidson, Ryan Newman, and Stacey Dash return for the next installment coming to our television screen on July 31. Get downtown and sink your teeth into the sharks roaming the streets of downtown looking for their next victim!

And people wonder why I’m exhausted when SDCC finishes up on Sunday! This is just what is available for fans on Friday so can you imagine Saturday? Well you should. I will make sure to let you know what’s coming and will share with you outside events that are happening before SDCC wraps up on Sunday.

FEAR THE WALKING DEAD: Season One Special Edition Brings the Undead to Bluray

fear 1

Jeri Jacquin

On March 22nd, from AMC and Anchor Bay Entertainment along with creators Robert Kirkman and Dave Erickson comes the first season filled with more questions than answers with FEAR THE WALKING DEAD: The Complete First Season Special Edition.

In the city of Los Angeles, high school counselor Madison (Kim Dickens) and English teacher Travis (Cliff Curtis) are raising their families. Madison has her hands full with son Nick (Frank Dillane) who is dealing with drug addiction and daughter Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey) who is just a mouthy teen who resents interference in her love life with boyfriend Matt (Maestro Harrell).

Travis still has dealings with ex-wife Liza (Elizabeth Rodriguez) and resentful son Christopher (Lorenzo Henrie). While all this is going on it isn’t surprising that no one really notices what is happening all around. People are becoming sick and it is spreading quickly.

fear 4

It all becomes real to Madison and Travis when, while with Nick, they see for themselves that the dead are rising. Not only are they rising, they are eating the living creating even more of the walking dead.

Deciding to leave town, the family begins to pack as Travis goes to get Liza and Christopher. What is happening on the streets quickly turns into a mob mentality.  Trying to save them from the crazed crowds, Travis talks Daniel Salazar (Ruben Blades) into letting them into the shop. Also in the shop is Daniels’ wife Griselda (Patricia Spindola) and daughter Ofelia (Mercedes Mason).

Once they are able, everyone goes back to Madison and Travis’ home. It is now too late to leave and they must wait as the military encloses neighborhoods looking for more of the undead.

What they are all soon to discover is that outside the fence is a monster of a different kind.

fear 2

Dickens as Madison is a mother who clearly needs to snap into reality, not just the reality of what is happening around her – but the reality that her son is a drug addict with Mom as an enabler. Spending more time dealing with Nick, Madison has a strained relationship with daughter Alicia. I have always enjoyed Dickens performances form HOUSE OF SAND AND FOG to GONE GIRL; this is an actress who stands out.

Curtis as Travis is a father who needs to get in touch with a son who isn’t happy with the divorce of his parents or interested in becoming part of a new family unit. Trying to be everything to everyone, Travis knows something is wrong but doesn’t know who to trust.

Blades as Daniel Salazar, to my way of thinking, is the straight forward no-nonsense character who tends to say exactly what he thinks. He sees exactly what is happening around all of them and doesn’t want to do anything but take care of his wife. Of course once she is taken away, he too knows something is wrong.

Dillane as Nick is a character that isn’t embraced happily. I say this hearing from my own readers they want to strangle themselves. Nick is a young man with serious problems who enables everyone around him. Let’s hope in season two things turn around! Debnam-Carey as Alicia is smart but tends to do what she wants and also enables her brother. Yep, a totally dysfunctional family in the modern world.

Henrie as Chris isn’t enjoying a second-family life but is observant to what is going on around him. Rodriguez as Liza is a nurse who wants to help at every turn of the epidemic and volunteers to help at a makeshift hospital for those who are sick. She also sees for herself what happens to the dead.

fear 3

AMC has brought itself to the forefront of cable television in the past few years. With such series as Mad Men, Hell on Wheels, and Breaking Bad, AMC has also blown television away with the series The Walking Dead and now, Fear the Walking Dead.

Anchor Bay brings amazing entertainment to those extending their media library and is also celebrating their 20th Anniversary. TUBS OF POPCORN: I give FEAR THE WALKING DEAD four tubs of popcorn out of five. Of course my heart (and probably brain) is stuck in what happened after the zombies take over the world so it took warming up to this first season. Once again the walkers are in the background of this family that can not escape their problems just because the dead want to eat them.

Having it set in Los Angeles puts all of the madness in the middle of a big city seeing how large groups of people react to it all. Fans have become use to deserted highways, broken down towns and small groups of people – FEAR THE WALKING DEAD puts havoc by the thousands front and center.

The Bluray has so much more detail to bring viewers into this “new” world of the dead as the story brings us to places we would never think walkers would dare to go. That’s the fantastic thing about these storylines – always expect the unexpected and even when you think you’re ready – you’re not!

The series still put human emotions front and center with Kirkman and Erickson making sure that nothing is left to chance. FEAR THE WALKING DEAD Season 2 will premier on AMC with 15 new episodes April 10th. Kirkman says, “We are going to see zombies unlike we’ve ever really seen before. All of this is something that is going to hit these characters really hard.”

fear 5

The FEAR THE WALKING DEAD: The Complete First Season Special Edition Bluray and Digital HD includes the Pilot Episode: The Widescreen Version, Deleted Scenes, Featurettes such as Inside “Fear the Walking Dead”, FEAR: The Beginning, Five Things You Need to Survive, Locations: LA & Vancouver, Quarantined, Stunts & Anarchy, The Faces of Fear: The Infected with Audio Commentaries for every episode with Dave Erickson, Adam Davidson, David Wiener and actors Kim Dickens, Alycia Debnam-Carey and Elizabeth Rodriguez.

There is hours of never-before-seen bonus features and deleted scenes which truly is the best part of adding FEAR THE WALKING DEAD to your home media library.

In the end – fear begins here!
