Jeri Jacquin

On Bluray, DVD and Digital from directors Rich Moore, Phil Johnston and Disney Home Entertainment comes RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET.

Ralph (John C. Reilly) and Vanellope (Sarah Silverman) are still hanging out as the best of friends. Still part of the Litwak’s Family Fun Center and Arcade, they are happy with how their lives have changed since their last adventure.

Well, at least Ralph is happy as Vanellope is looking for something exciting to break up the routine. Her bff decides it is up to him to make that happen and adds a bonus track to her race. She is thrilled but the player of the game isn’t able to control things and the steering wheel becomes broken in the real world.ralph 1

Mr. Litwak (Ed O’Neill) knows that the maker of the game Sugar Rush has been out of business for some time and discovers that a replacement wheel is to expensive. That’s when Ralph and Vanellope decide that they are going to get one themselves in a place called the Internet. Going to eBay they place a wild bid on the wheel and now have to come up with the money!

Trying ways to get the cash, it is Ralph and when he becomes a viral sensation, they also learn the dark side of the internet. When things go wrong, Vanellope gets very upset at Ralph and all video game breaks loose. When a virus is unleashed, Ralph knows he has to make everything right AND still get the wheel to help his best friend.

Things in the game world is about to change!

Reilly reprises his vocal role as the animated and loveable Wreck-It Ralph. In this adventure he is happy with how things have been going but when Vanellope needs something more – her friend provides it. Even when things go a little wackadoodle Ralph wants to make it right for his friend and their next adventure begins.

Silverman as Vanellope loves her friendship with Ralph and isn’t surprised that he would want to add something fun to her life. Their adventure together takes them into the internet and a whole new group of characters and all because her friend Ralph wants to save her game Sugar Rush. These two were destine to be friends no matter what happens.

ralph 2

Watching the friendship of Ralph and Vanellope was entertaining in 2012 and it is just as entertaining in 2019. Ralph is the loveable big guy who is completely misunderstood and only wants what’s best for his friends – especially his bff Vanellope. He wants her happy and would do anything to make that happen. Now there is a good friend!

And that’s what the pair has together (even when they sometimes don’t see eye to eye), a friendship that is so full of caring and fun that it’s hard not to watch every single second with a bit of a grin. I have to admit that having the Disney Princess’ in the film sure does bring a lot of fun and watching Vanellope give them a make-over is pure classic fun.

Basically, this is good animated fun for the entire family and with all the rainy days it’s a great chance to cuddle up together with a Ralph size popcorn and enjoy!

In the end – they are best friends no matter what!

Disney’s THE LITTLE MERMAID Returns to Us on Bluray

bluray cover

Jeri Jacquin

On Bluray, DVD and Digital from the Walt Disney Signature Collection is the return of our favorite underwater characters in THE LITTLE MERMAID.

Ariel (voiced by the amazing Jodi Benson) is a curious little mermaid who lives under the sea with her father Triton (Kenneth Mars). Constantly worried about his youngest daughter, Triton gives orders to Sebastian (Samuel E. Wright) to keep an eye on her.

Ariel’s constant companion is Flounder (Jason Marin), a fish who enjoys all the trinkets and treasures she finds. When neither knows what an object is, they ask their friendly neighborhood seagull Scuttle (Buddy Hackett) who has a name for everything.

mermaid 1

The one thing Ariel wants to know about are those who live on the land. Deciding that’s her next adventure she makes a deal with the less than friendly Ursula (Pat Carroll) and in exchange for legs, she gets Ariel’s voice.

Once on land she meets Eric (Christopher Barnes), a young prince who is intrigued by the young girl. Spending time together makes her very happy but it’s Sebastian who is all a flutter. Not only does he have to keep away from the kitchen but help Ariel find happiness with the prince before Ursula gets what she really wants!

Benson as Ariel has become the iconic and ethereal voice of THE LITTLE MERMAID. Her voice is so endearing and her laughter seems so genuine that its easy to smile at her adventure. That is important especially to little kids who might be experiencing THE LITTLE MERMAID for the very first time. Musker and Clements knew exactly what they were doing when casting Benson. Her singing is a bit magical and every bit stunning!

Wright as Sebastian is as smooth a lobster as there ever was one. He is funny, sweet, hilarious and clearly loves his ward. Their relationship is funny from the start and continues to the very last frame. Marin as Flounder is such a sweet young friend to Ariel and that’s important when everyone else sees you as different.

mermaid 4

Barnes as Eric is a young man who finds there is something different about the young girl washed ashore, he could never imagine how different. Mars as Triton has the deep fatherly voice but also comes to understand that his daughter has a path all her own.

Carroll as Ursula is absolutely fantastic and even though her character is a tad evil we can’t help but sing along to her songs. Lets face it…she’s just misunderstood. She can make even this bad girl sound good.

Other cast include: Rene Auberjonois as Louis, Paddi Edwards as Flotsam & Jetsam, Edie McClurg as Carlotta, Ben Wright as Grimsby and Will Ryan as Seahorse.

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment began distributing under its own label in 1980 and continues to bring quality programming to kids and kids at heart. In the discussion, the ladies will share their memories of musically creating their characters with Alan, discuss what it means to be part of the Disney Princess/leading lady legacy and create new memories as they sing with Alan around a baby grand piano!

Also the Digital Code can be used with the Movies Anywhere App meaning families can watch the film just about anywhere on their Computer, Smartphone, TV and Tablet.

THE LITTLE MERMAID is back with this Anniversary Edition that reminds us how much we loved it the first time in 1989. Each generation that is introduced to this film comes away with singing the songs and loving the characters.

mermaid 3

My family is into its third generation of singing along and loving every moment together as my granddaughter now reminds us of ‘Gizmo’s & Gadgets’. Flounder and Sebastian have their proper place among her Disney stuffed animals and we couldn’t be happier.

That’s what Disney brings us, the animated stories that become generational with characters we can count on to share friendship, family, love, loyalty and adventure. I know this to be true because my first Disney film was FANTASIA and have followed everything animated since.

So bring the family together to take another trip under the sea to visit the fin and leg friends we have come to cherish with Disney’s Anniversary Edition of THE LITTLE MERMAID on Bluray, DVD and Digital.

In the end – love has no boundarie

PJMasks

Jeri Jacquin

Coming to DVD from eOne and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment is the trio with night time superpowers to save the day with PJ MASKS: Butterfly Brigade.

Connor aka Catboy, Amaya aka Owlette and Greg aka Gekko decide to spend the day at the zoo. Connor wants to see the lions but Maya and Greg convince him to visit the butterfly exhibit first. That’s when the three discover that Luna Girl has taken all the butterflies for her new sidekicks.

Connor is having some trouble with things happening in a weird way. Even his powers are a little out of whack and he doesn’t know why. But after watching footage of the town, they discover that everyone has been affected in some way. There are mysterious happenings and when they see Romeo they know the answers aren’t far behind.

pj 3

Greg is at home with a case of the sneezes but wants to join Connor and Amaya at the comic books store, especially when a special copy has been taken. The problem is that when Greg becomes Gekko his simple sneezes becomes super sneezes! Gekko realizes Luna Girl is behind the comic book heist and needs to tell Catboy and Owlette before it’s to late.

Amaya wants the gang to go bike riding and Connor is thrilled because he got a new set of wheels for his birthday. Looking out the window they see school buses going by and behind those set of wheels are Ninjalinos. Even worse, Owlette is impressed with the buses are parked outside of the PJ Masks headquarters and Night Ninja lets it be known he is about to take over.

While outside playing at the park, the gang discovers that all the equipment has been taken! It’s time for Owlette, Gekko and Catboy to find out who has taken everything and get it back to the kids who miss having it. At the PJ Masks headquarters they discover that Romeo might have a hand in the mystery. It’s not the missing equipment that Romeo was really after – it’s the trio’s superpowers!

Finally, in class it is time to build rockets and Greg is absolutely thrilled until he sees that there isn’t much left of the props to help build one. Thinking they can all get ideas from the museum, their teacher announces that the field trip is cancelled because of a strange power outage. Well, that means only one thing – Owlette, Gekko and Catboy are about to discover that Romeo has a big box of bad and that isn’t good!

pj 2

The six episodes include Catboy and the Butterfly Brigade, Clumsy Catboy, Gekko’s Stay-at-Home Sneezes, Owlette and the Battling Headquarters, Owlette of a Kind and Gekko and the Mayhem at the Museum.

What can be said about PJ MASKS that every two and up child hasn’t already shown in their faces when they sing and dance to the opening song of PJ Masks. I have watched my granddaughter riveted by the dynamic trio to the point of having their toys and even masks and capes to fly around fighting household crime!

That is what makes the PJ Masks trio so very special! Each have their own special powers to be sure but working together is all they need to be successful. Being young doesn’t mean you can’t do what ever is necessary to help keep their town and the people in it safe.

pj 4

There are laughs and giggles here for adults to and if you aren’t careful – you may end up cuddled up on the couch with your favorite group of young ones enjoying the adventures as well.

PJ MASKS: Butterfly Brigade is fun but also filled with the important lessons we want our children to learn. They talk about togetherness, friendship, protecting one another against harm and trying to overcome difficulties. I, for one, am for all of those things being part of my own granddaughters time watching television.

In the end – they go into the night to save the day!

SMALLFOOT is Total Family Fun

small poster

Jeri Jacquin

In theatres from directors Karey Kirkpatrick, Jason Reisig and Warner Bros. is the story high in the clouds about SMALLFOOT.

Migo (voiced by Channing Tatum) is a yeti who lives in a village high in the clouds. His father Dorgle (Danny DeVito) has a very important job of helping the sun come up each morning and Migo wants to be just like him.

When the village Stonekeeper (Common) bestows on Migo his own helmet, the training begins. After a few practice runs, he is set across the sky aiming for his gong target when distracted by the lovely Meechee (Zendaya), daughter of the Stonekeeper. Shooting over the mountain, Migo lands in a snowy patch and tangles with an airplane where he sees the mythical Smallfoot!

Running back to the village to tell everyone, Migo is banished by the Stonekeeper until he tells everyone the truth – there are no Smallfoots. Deciding to find one Migo takes off but finds himself followed by Gwangi (LeBron James), Kolka (Gina Rodriguez) and Fleem (Ely Henry).

small 1

They take Migo to Meechee who is the head of the S.E.S. (Smallfoot Evidentiary Society). The group believes that all the rules set in stone for the yeti’s are not true, that there has to be something more. Migo still takes it upon himself to find a Smallfoot in the local town and meets Percy (James Corden), a television personality who spends his time discovering new animals but has lately fallen on hard times.

When the pilot of the downed airplane makes it to the town, he tells Percy that he saw a yeti which gives Percy a great idea. Trying to convince Brenda (Yara Shahidi) to dress up as a yeti, he could get his ratings back and once again be a hit.

But Migo has other plans and after a verbal exchange of sorts, takes Percy to his village. Stunning that the yeti’s are congenial, Percy finds himself making friends and explaining any questions, well sort of, that they might have. Meechee realizes that something is wrong with Percy and that he needs to get off the mountain.

small 2

That’s when Migo discovers through the Stonekeeper that some things are better left untold to the people and making Percy go away is the best thing for them all. Not everyone agrees and when the two groups meet – someone has to bend!

Tatum as Migo is adorable and my three-year-old granddaughter is my proof. She was immediately drawn to Migo with his fast talking curious ways and when the singing began – that’s all it took. Laughing, clapping and cheering Migo on became her mission all through the film and it was as delightful as the film to watch. Thanks Channing for making our film experience so entertaining!

Corden as Percy is a fast talking personality who is losing his perspective and, according to Brenda, his integrity. Willing to do anything to bring back the fame he once knew, it takes a group of furry yeti’s to remind him of his humanity and ability to care for someone other than himself.

Zendaya as Meechee is charming and stubborn when it comes to doing what her father the Stonekeeper says. She believes that there is something more to their life and wants to be able to find out what that is. Common as the Stonekeeper is convinced he is doing the right thing by his yeti-people and is equally as stubborn to make sure the village is kept safe. Tatro as brother Thorp does his father’s bidding but does get an eventual wake up call.

DeVito as Dorgle comes from a long line of yeti’s who have made it their life (and flat headed work) to bring in the sunrise and enjoys knowing Migo will someday follow…or will he? Rodriguez as Kolka follows Meechee with no hesitation but is keeping an eye on Migo. James as Gwangi is another follower who believes with or without any proof. Henry as Fleem is the yeti that would drive me nuts always weighting the pros and cons of life until what he’s weighing becomes over rated.

small 3

SMALLFOOT is fun, musical and giggly mixed in with lessons of loyalty to both family and friendship no matter how big or small your foot might be. The fun comes in the slap stick comedy of snowy pratfalls and snowballs that I will even admit to enjoying. In a theatre full of children, it is easy to see the delight on their faces.

The music is fun, lighthearted, engaging and, I’m sure, will create a few hits that will be sung by children again and again. While the characters were singing the catchier tunes, the children would stand up and dance a little which always makes the adult laugh and smile.

Giggling is inevitable with this film as its jokes get the adults and the antics get the kids, or maybe it’s the other way around but does it matter? The antics are there and its meant for every age group.

small 4

The lessons of friendship and differences are what is wonderful and colorfully done with SMALLFOOT. Whether you are furry or have a small foot, each side saw the other as monsters and that is when the opportunity presents itself to either change that or continue to live in fear. I choose the change!

SMALLFOOT’s animation is colorful, vibrant and stunning which is just icing on the cake of a film, and I saw for myself, that everyone truly, truly enjoyed.

In the end – no every legend is a tall tale!

The story sweeps the viewer in quickly because the relationship between the siblings is one of mutual respect and love.

box 1

The characters in the story gave me plenty of reason to giggle, smile and remember what it was like to spend summers on the beach with my own siblings. The animation is vivid and extraordinary to tell this touching story.

This film is absolutely a must have for the home film library and a story I want my own grandchildren to watch again and again. These are important stories to be told and they are made sweeter by a studio that takes such amazing care in the way a story is presented to those of us who love the books.

THE BOXCAR CHILDREN: Surprise Island has so much to teach us all about beauty, family, love and support along with believing in a few life surprises.

In the end – on a small island they find big adventure!

Bring all Your Monsters to See HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 3: Summer Vacation

Hotel trans cover

Jeri Jacquin

In theatres this week from director Genndy Tartakovsky and Sony Pictures Animation is a return to visit one of our favorite monster family’s at HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 3: Summer Vacation.

The hotel is busier than ever as Dracula (Adam Sandler) and daughter Mavis (Selena Gomez) miss spending family time together. Son-in-law Johnny (Andy Samberg) thinks Mavis’ idea of a family vacation is fantastic and along with son Dennis (Asher Blinkoff) pack immediately.

Mavis has booked passage on a monster cruise and invites the extended family with Frank (Kevin James), Eunice (Fran Drescher), Wayne (Steve Buscemi), Wanda (Molly Shannon) and their brood, Griffin (David Spade), Murray (Keegan-Michael Key) and Grandpa Vlad (Mel Brooks).

hotel 1

At first Dracula isn’t thrilled about the idea but when Mavis implores him to use the time for family, he can’t exactly turn her down. Captain Ericka (Kathryn Hahn) welcomes everyone aboard and promises them a fantastic vacation. Seeing all the ship has to offer, the gang is excited. Even Dracula changes his tune when he sees Erika because the one thing he thought would never happen is happening – zinging!

Worried how Mavis will react, he keeps his feelings under his proverbial cape. What he doesn’t know and that’s who is hiding below deck, what plans are taking shape and more importantly – who is Bob?

All of this and more will be answered because after all – they are family!

Sandler as Dracula once again puts on the cape to run the hotel and spending time being a good Dad and Grandpa. Wanting to spend more family time, the monster cruise is certainly something different. It’s good to see Sandler keep his character goofy and loveable even for a vampire.

hotel 2

Gomez as Mavis wants to spend quality time with the family having fun. Having her father ‘zing’ certainly isn’t on her itinerary. It doesn’t help that her suspicions about the ships captain are accurate but everyone deserves a second chance.

Hahn as Captain Erika is nimble, fun and very sneaky. She has her eye on Dracula but zinging isn’t why! Erika’s story of hereditary, history and revenge but she also hasn’t met anyone like Dracula.

Frank, Eunice, Wayne, Wanda, Griffin, Murray all return because this wouldn’t be HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA without them. They bring fun, charm and a gentle reminder that extended family hold an important place in our lives. This bunch is so loveable that I was “awing” every five minutes. This is a monster family that started it all and continues to keep us together.

Shout out to Mel Brooks as Grandpa Vlad for bringing the jokes and fun on deck. Of course any time Mel Brooks shows up to a party it’s going to be awesome!

hotel 3

Other cast include Chris Parnell as Stan, Joe Jonas as The Kraken, Chrissy Teigen as Crystal, Aaron LaPlante as the Gremlin, Genndy Tartakovsky as Blobby, Sandie Sandler as Winnie, Sunny Sandler as Sunny, Tara Strong as Frankenlady, Libby Dickey as Lucy, and Joe Whyte as Tinkles.

HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 3: Summer Vacation makes the difficult look easy in that the story is fresh and fun while leaving us the characters our own family’s have come to love. The comedy is there, family issues about our busy lives and, of course, how love shows up at the most unexpected time and place – no matter if your one or one thousand years old.

It is so easy to forget these are ‘monsters’ when there situations are not so different than our own. Another reason this series of films has and continues to be embraced by family film goers. It’s a film we can take our kids to see while still being kids ourselves.

So pack up your own brood and prepare them all for popcorn, fun and loads of giggles. HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 3: Summer Vacation is everything and so much more.

In the end – family vacations can suck the life out of you!

INCREDIBLES 2 is Exactly That – Purely Incredible!

Incred 2

Jeri Jacquin

Coming to theatres this week from writer/director Brad Bird, Pixar and Walt Disney Studios is the return of the family we love to love with INCREDIBLES 2.

After the Parr family has dealt with the Mole and his attack on the city, the Supers once again find themselves on the outs. Sitting in a motel room wondering what they are going to do next, Lucius aka Frozone (Samuel L. Jackson) arrives with news.

It seems someone wants to help bring Supers back! A meeting with Winston (Bob Odenkirk) and Evelyn Deavor (Catherine Keener) brings Bob/Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson) and Helen/Elastigirl (Holly Hunter) a chance to prove that Supers should be brought back.

incred 1

The idea is to make Elastigirl the face of the Supers which takes them by surprise, especially Bob’s ego. The Deavor’s provide the Parr family with a spacious and, well incredible new home and Helen an awesome two wheel ride. All of this means Bob is home to tend to teen-angst ridden Violet (Sarah Vowell), Dash (Huck Milner) and Jack-Jack (Eli Fucile).

Home life problems include Violet’s confusion about her date with Tony (Michael Bird), Dash’s rambunctiousness and Jack-Jack being Jack-Jack. As Helen leaves to resume ‘hero’ work, Bob is now Mr. Mom and learning the ropes. It doesn’t take long before he becomes over whelmed but can’t let Helen know so calls on Lucius who is equally confused about it all. His last hope is Edna Mode (Brad Bird)!

Helen on the other hand is busy saving Ambassador’s and meeting new Supers. Winston wants to create a summit where everyone comes together once again. The problem is a new villain is using technology to turn the Supers into not-so-nice Supers putting the possibility of bringing Supers back on the back burner! You follow?

Don’t worry, you will, and what an incredible ride it is!

incred 22

Hunter as Helen/Elastigirl takes the lead in this film as a working Mom in the most Super of ways. I love Hunter’s character for so many reasons but mainly she is the glue that holds the Parr family together. Not taking anything away from Bob, it’s just a Mom thang!

Nelson as Bob/Mr. Incredible is a little distraught about being put aside but slowly begins to see that he can be equally incredible being an dialed-in Dad as well. When he is finally called to help save the world once again, a twists comes in and the loyalty of family suits up!

Vowell as Violet is having the double issue of teen and super confusion. The one thing she does know for sure is that family is everything. Milner as Dash continues his wise cracking sense of humor and ability to test his parent’s limits – which isn’t always a bad thing.

Jackson as Lucius/Frozone is thrilled at the possibility of being free to freeze, even if his wife might have other ideas. Odenkirk as Winston is a man who truly believes that the Supers need to come back. He has his own personal reasons for it which are endearing. Keener as Evelyn is laid back and the technical brains of the very rich duo.

incred 5

Fucil as Jack-Jack steals the film from everyone and it must be said. This kid-character had me cracking up from start to finish – probably because that’s exactly how I see most toddlers. Fiery one minute and happy with a cookie the next, Jack-Jack is coming into his own and the family better learn to deal!

Other cast include Sophia Bush as Voyd, Phil LaMarr as Krushauer/Helectrix, Adam Gates as Chad Brentley, Jonathan Banks as Rick Dicker, Isabella Rossellini as the Ambassador.

INCREDIBLES 2 has my whole family jumping in our very incredible Incredible pajamas. Yes, when we like something we go all in and this film is definitely family fun from start to finish. It is so great to have the gang back together dealing with the duality of trying to have a normal life while trying to save the world from itself.

I believe the reason for the films success in 2004 is because this family is so dang cute for one but totally relatable for another. They have work problems, family issues, sibling rivalry – basically everything we non-supers deal with every day. The fact that they are animated just makes all of those things sort of enjoyable.

incred 4

What I enjoy as well is the fact that writer/director Bird doesn’t really deviate from that winning formula. In fact, once again the story deals with losing a home, being unemployed, Mom having to be the bread winner and Dad discovering what really goes on at home and, of course, turning to true friends in time of need.

Those are awesome things to take away from a film that also entertains at every turn. I walked into the theatre giddy with excitement to see one of my favorite families (if you must know, The Adams Family is also in that list) come together once again and, well, be a family that just happens to have something extra to share with us all.

So gather up your own super family and prepare for adventure, laughs and a little learning with a family that shows us all how it’s possible to be incredible in our own ways.

In the end – it’s back to work!

THE STEAM ENGINES OF OZ Revisited After a Century

steam engines of oz box

Jeri Jacquin

Coming to Bluray and DVD from Arcana Studios, Cinedigm and direction Sean Patrick O’Reilly is a story of old friends meeting new heroes in the animated THE STEAM ENGINES OF OZ.

It has been a century since Dorothy, Scarecrow, Cowardly Lion and Tin Man (Mathew Anderson) brought us all to Oz. Now, the Emerald City has been turned into metal mayhem and is ruled by a different Tin Man.

Victoria Wright (Ashleigh Ball) is a young engineer who has the gift to fix things below the city as needed but dreams of one day seeing the city. When a pack of flying monkeys swoops her up, she is introduced to the Queen of the North Locasta (Julianna Hough) in the Emerald Forest.

steam 1

She learns that the Tin Man wants to destroy the forest with industry and needs to stop it. Along with Lion Magnus (Ron Perlman), Scarecrow (Geoff Gustafson), Oscar ‘Oz’ Diggs (William Shatner) and a band of munchkins, all of this can be turned around by finding the Tin Man’s missing heart.

When they band together, Victoria and her friends don’t just fight for the Emerald City but one another with friendship, loyalty and heart!

Ball as Victoria is a bright spot and is drawn in by everyone she meets, even if they don’t want to be. Hough as Locasta knows that Victoria is the one to make things right again and gives encouragement to the young girl.

Perlman as Magnus is perfect as he has the right vocal disposition for the part. Of course it is practically impossible not to recognize the voice of William Shatner who plays the great Oz himself.

THE STEAM ENGINES OF OZ is definitely something different than what most of us have known about the Wizard of Oz. That’s actually what makes this story so unique because it is what has happened since our trip down the yellow brick road.

The Tin Man has lost the one thing that made him feel so much and becoming metal minded he is ruining what we all knew about the Emerald City. Young Victoria is the new face of saving Oz and rising up out of the basement, as it were; she sees what Oz has become.

It isn’t until she goes outside the city does Victoria realize how beautiful the Emerald City could be again. Finding those who see what is happening is challenging but finding the right those who believe in the Emerald City and Victoria is paramount.

The vibrant colors and animation of THE STEAM ENGINES OF OZ is entertaining and the story challenges us all to think further on down the road. We’d all love for the Emerald City to stay the same but a century is a long time for that to happen. The stun is that the Tin Man would lose the one thing he fought so hard to get!

Victoria is a character that has such a giving heart and although it takes a little convincing, others believe she is the one to lead them. I really enjoyed the quirkiness of the characters as did my granddaughter.

In the end – it is about friendship, determination and love!

Peter Pan bluray

Jeri Jacquin

Coming soon to Bluray-DVD with a Digital Code from directors Clyde Geronimi, Wilfred Jackson and Hamilton Luske along with Disney is the iconic boy who could fly with the memorable adventure of PETER PAN.

John (Paul Collins), Michael (Tommy Luske) and older sister Wendy (Kathryn Beaumont) live in the 1900’s London. Spending time her brothers reading at bedtime is something Wendy truly loves but father George makes it clear that its time to stop but what they don’t expect is a visit from a flying boy named Peter Pan along with little winged pixie Tinker Bell.

Peter is chasing his shadow and Wendy not only helps catch it but reattaches it. He also wants Wendy, Michael and John to come and be a part of Never Land. With a sprinkle of pixie dust they are flying high!

What waits for them, besides the Lost Boys, is a pirate ship and Captain Hook (Hans Conried). Along with his first mate Mr. Smee (Bill Thompson), Hook holds only one person responsible for the loss of his hand and that’s Peter Pan. Of course the fact that the crocodile ticking his presence known might disagree, Hook wants Peter. Tinker Bell is also showing signs of jealousy towards Wendy and tries to convince the Lost Boys to shoot her out of the sky leading to her banishment.

John and Michael decide to explore the island a little and find the Indians but are taken because the island natives believe that they are responsible for the capture of Tiger Lily, the chief’s daughter while Wendy meets mermaids with Peter. The two also discover that it is Captain Hook who is responsible for the taking of Tiger Lily. Helping her escape brings a celebration but Tinker Bell isn’t finished. Captain Hook gets her to tell where Peter and the Lost Boys live.

Wendy is trying to convince Peter and the Lost Boys to come back with her so they can find their own families but Peter ignores them. That’s when Hook grabs Wendy and the boys to make them either sign onto his crew or walk the plank. Leaving a little present behind for Peter, Tinker Bell fears for her friend and that’s when Captain Hook discovers that it’s not quite so easy to come between Peter Pan and his friends.

Sometimes growing up doesn’t mean giving up being a kid!

Wendy, John and Michael are children that have grown up on the stories of Peter Pan and nothing has made them happier than to live their dream. The relationship between the children is so sweet and beautiful and Wendy definitely has the mother instinct – nothing against Nana the dog of course! When faced with the possibility that they will be separated, Wendy believes that going to Never Land may be her last chance before having to grow up.

Their journey isn’t without its problems in the form of a jealous pixie and a vengeful Captain but the adventure in them isn’t defined by them. Instead, they each want to explore and learn about the island, the Lost Boys and all they knew from the stories told by their sister. When it comes time to defend each other, they do just that.

Other cast of characters includes Heather Angel as Mrs. Darling, Hans Conried as Mr. Darling, Candy Candido as the Indian Chief and Tom Conway Narrating the story.

The story of Peter Pan was created by playwright J.M. Barrie. Through his story children everywhere have embraced the story of the boy who could fly, a light filled fairy, lost boys and three children who change everything! That isn’t the first adventure told by Barrie as he can be found in the 1902 The Little White Bird in the Chapter Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens. A 1904 stage play  also came about with Peter Pan or The Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up. In 1911 the story of Peter and Wendy came to print as well.

In 1953, Walt Disney decided to create an animated film based on Barrie’s stage play. Adding such memorable songs such as “You Can Fly!”, “A Pirate’s Life”, “What Made the Red Man Red?” and “Never Smile at a Crocodile” brings the film to another level of an enjoyable experience. I remember each of these and enjoyed teaching them to my granddaughter who thinks the movie is so much fun.

Peter 4

Peter Pan is the kid we all tried to be and even let out from time to time when we became adults. The best part about the film is that it has become a generational story losing nothing in the translation. This is a story of family, friendships, humor, life, silliness, song, flight and the fun that has made PETER PAN iconic and beloved.

This film has stood the test of time in story and animation and with the multi-screen anniversary release of PETER PAN, the colors are even more vibrant, the songs crisp and the fun exactly where it should be. We have a Disney library in our home and it absolutely wouldn’t be complete without PETER PAN taking his place along with the most amazing animated films Disney has ever offered from its inception until now.

In the end – it will live in your heart forever!
